Has anyone noticed that TextEdit App shows up in Finder / Applications but does not showup in Launchpad? I know it can be added to the Dock, which I have done but how to add to Launchpad. PS - I did an fresh install of Mavericks ( that is, made a bootable USB of Mavericks, booted from it, Partitioned HD to single partition and installed a clean. TextEdit is a simple, open-source word processor and text editor, first featured in NeXT's NeXTSTEP and OpenStep.It is now distributed with macOS since Apple Inc.' S acquisition of NeXT, and available as a GNUstep application for other Unix-like operating systems such as Linux. It is powered by Apple Advanced Typography and has many advanced typographic features. TextEdit is the default text editor/word processor that is included in Mac OS X. Follow the instructions on the developer websites to get all of the software installed and working on your system. Once you have the software installed, the next step is to configure your Mac to use Soundflower for dictation. TextEdit is OS X Mavericks’ word processor and text editor that you can use to write letters, scribble notes, or open Read Me files. It’s not as sophisticated as Microsoft Word (or Apple’s Pages, Quark Xpress, or Adobe InDesign, for that matter), but you can definitely use it for light word processing and text editing.

TextEdit is a freeware, but abandoned text editing application that can deal with a number of different programming languages.

To start off, TextEdit is full capable of editing popular web coding languages like PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS and others. It's also able to parse and highlight other code like SQL, Delphi and C.
